Sponsorship
A handful of members of the Stanford Formula Racing Team met with prospective sponsors this past weekend, including Schlumberger, GM, Fluor, Mathworks, HRL, and Lam. We sat through various presentations, and made our case for sponsoring SFR. Most of the representatives seemed genuinely interested in the project and promised to do their best to pitch it the appropriate person at their company.

Group Certification
Alex, Bernie, and Mike met with Nanci Howe, Noe Lozano, and Chris Edwards to discuss group certification. The meeting went extremely well, and with the support of our faculty advisers we were able to convince Nanci that building the car is a viable project. We are now an approved, ASSU-recognized student group, cleared to fundraise, cleared to race.

Mock Chassis
Around ten team members put together a mock chassis this weekend given the measurements in the electronic drawing that Brian and Alex had put together. This build session was all possible thanks to the Kwan family's lending of their garage and some tools, and thanks to Brian's pillagingcough "borrowing" of some tools from various build sites on campus. We leaned that that base of the rear triangle had to be widened about two inches, and that the rest of the drawing was fairly accurate. Building the mock chassis helped us to visualize where we wanted to put the steering rack to minimize bump steer while also being structurally plausible and good for driver ergonomics. It also helped us visualize where to place the bell-cranks and where we wanted to mount our shocks. Check out all the pictures in the Gallery. As always the pictures are also available in high res on the ftp server.

Ted and Nancy Dyno Trip
Pictures are up in the Gallery from the trip to check out Ted's dyno. We uploaded some videos on the ftp server too. The 2L engine that Ted has mounted on the dyno produces over 270hp normally aspirated and turns 11k. This engine is a monster. Needless to say the trip was exhilarating while also being informative. A lot of the pictures are of the dyno itself, in case we ever wanted to build a dyno ourselves.

Trip to Ted and Nancy's
Pictures are up in the Gallery from the trip to Ted and Nancy's that Alex, Malcom, and Bernie took. The picture of the wall with all the framed certificates on it are COURSE RECORDS that Nancy has made. This couple is truly great.

Pomona Trip
Pictures of the Pomona trip are up in the Gallery. Pomona hosted an autocross, so along with being able to host their own formula event, they also got to make some money and ride in a variety of modified street cars. Yeah...that Evo, we definitely rode in that. The interior behind the front seat was completely stripped and the turbo was pressing 22psi. I've never felt a car pull through a corner as hard as that Evo. And, oh yeah, the Z06, that blonde girl was driving....yup, we rode in that as well.
